Exceptional piece of Mexican folk art by the Fuentes family in Oaxaca. This Day of the Dead skull was carved out of copal wood which is sustainably sourced in the surrounding fields of the town of San Martin Tilcajete. The painting is very finely done with vibrant colors and Zapotec patterns which are inspired by those found on the ancient ruins in Oaxaca and are very important in Oaxacan culture to this day.
