Pepita Winged Jaguar Eagle - Oaxacan Alebrije Wood Carving

    Very fine wood carving by the Fabian Family inspired by the Pepita character from the movie Coco. Expertly carved out of copal wood which is sustainably sourced in the fields surrounding the town of San Martin Tilcajete and is the wood of choice for artists in the region. This fabulous piece incorporates parts from various animals which is a feature of traditional alebrijes. This piece incorporates the body and face of a jaguar, the horns of a ram and the wings of an eagle. Alebrijes are fantastical creations made from the imagination of the artist and brought to life.  An excellent work of Mexican folk art.
