Beautiful one-piece octopus alebrije wood carving handcrafted by the Melchor family at their workshop in Oaxaca, Mexico. Expertly carved out of a copal wood and painted finely with traditional Zapotec patterns. Copal wood is sustainably sourced in the fields surrounding the small towns of San Martin Tilcajete & Arrazola and is the wood of choice for wood carvers in Oaxaca. Many months went into creating this exceptional piece. From curing, carving, sanding & painting the wood. An alebrije can take up to 15 months to complete depending on the size and complexity of the piece.
