This masterpiece rhinoceros was both carved and painted by the Fabian family of San Martin Tilcajete in the city of Oaxaca, Mexico. The carving is especially impressive since it was done from a single piece of copal wood. The Zapotec patterns are inspired from those found at the ancient ruins throughout Oaxaca and were meticulously painted over a bold turquoise base. An excellent museum quality piece!
