Excellent chameleon alebrije by the Calvo family at their workshop in the small town of San Martin Tilcajete just outside of Oaxaca city in Mexico. This town is known as being the place where these magical wooden creations are made and are known worldwide as alebrijes. The Calvo family is one of the most popular and their pieces are sought after for the vibrance and delicate detail Their pieces incorporate Zapotec patterns which are inspired by the ancient ruins throughout Oaxaca. This piece was made from a single piece of copal wood and entirely painted by hand! The amount of detail especially in the curvatures of the tail is absolutely amazing!
