Zapotec Bison - Oaxacan Alebrije Wood Carving

    Exceptional one-piece bison wood carving by Jose Calvo & Magaly Fuentes. Jose & Magaly are a young couple living in the town of San Martin just outside of Oaxaca city. This place is known worldwide as the magical town where fantastic wooden creations known as "alebrijes" come from. The Fuentes family is one of the original families to popularize this art form having started with the late Epifanio Fuentes. His legacy lives on in his children who continue to create pieces with the "Fuentes style" which incorporates very vibrant colors and precise Zapotec details throughout the piece.
