This masterpiece rhinoceros was both carved and painted by Jose Fabian of San Martin Tilcajete in the city of Oaxaca, Mexico. Jose is a young and up-and-coming artist who is already making a name for himself. The carving is especially impressive since it was done from a single piece of copal wood. The Zapotec patterns are inspired from those found at the ancient ruins throughout Oaxaca and were meticulously painted over a bold turquoise base. An excellent museum quality piece!
