This elephant sculpture was made with sustainably sourced copal wood using techniques that have been passed down over generations. The detail in the carving is a result of years of practice using the tools of traditional wood carvers which include gouges, chisels, machetes and sandpaper. The piece was decorated with ancient Zapotec symbols using natural dyes and acrylic paint.
