Exceptional nahual man-jaguar fusion wood carving by the Jimenez family at their workshop in Oaxaca. Expertly carved out of copal wood and painted with vibrant detail. The Jimenez family was the original family to create the wooden figures known as alebrijes. Manuel Jimenez is credited with being the originator of the Oaxacan alebrije and is considered to be a "grand master" of Mexican folk art by the Fomento Cultural Banamex .Having taught his children all of the techniques he developed over the years since the age of 8, they continue to create these wonderful works of art years after his death which was in 2005.
