Exceptional dog alebrije wood carving by the Calvo family. Expertly carved out of a single piece of copal wood which is considered a sacred wood which only grows in Oaxaca and is the preferred wood for carvers. This piece was very well made with perfect proportions and a gazing expression. The Zapotec patterns adorning the entire piece are inspired by those found on the ancient ruins found scattered throughout the Oaxaca region and have a great importance on Oaxacan culture and arts. A fantastic piece for the art and dog lover!
