Beautiful koala alebrije carving by the Fuentes family workshop in Oaxaca, Mexico. Expertly carved out of copal wood ,which is sustainably sourced in the fields surrounding the town of San Martin Tilcajete. This wood is considered to be sacred and is the wood of choice for artists in the region. The painting is absolutely stunning and incorporates the Fuentes traditional style and vibrant colors along with Zapotec inspired elements.  An excellent work of Mexican folk art and a great addition to any art collection!
